The New York Festival’s International Radio Programme awards have been celebrating the best of international radio for over a decade and at the ceremony last night we were lucky enough to win a total of 17 awards.

These awards included ‘Production Company Of The Year’ for the fifth year running and the Grand Award for ‘World Cup ’66 – Live’ which also won 3 Golds and 4 Silvers. This major event involved the live retelling of the 1966 English World Cup win, in real time, live from Wembley Arena, and broadcast simultaneously on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 5Live, BBC Red Button and into Cinemas across the UK. The event featured Martin Freeman playing Bobby Moore as stories around the game were told, and accompanied by a live music underscore, as well as featured artists performing the biggest hits from 1966.

Our Radio 4 documentary series, ‘The Boy Who Gave His Heart Away’ won 3 Golds. It told the inspirational story of two boys who fell ill at the same time. One died and his organs were taken to help others, allowing the other young boy in this gripping story to survive.

The awards won this year takes our total to over 60 New York Festival awards.
