Magic of the Musicals
On Monday 23rd of May, TBI joined forces with Magic Radio to produce Magic of the Musicals from the Royal Albert Hall.
This one off event featured casts from London’s West End shows; Disney’s The Lion King, Hairspray, MAMMA MIA! Matilda The Musical, Guys and Dolls, In the Heights, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wicked, Beautiful – The Carol King Story and Sunny Afternoon.
We were privileged to have West End star Ruthie Henshall presenting the show, alongside former Strictly Come Dancing winner Tom Chambers and special guest Ramin Karimloo, who was met with standing ovations, as the audience relieved Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables and Evita.
There were some outstanding performances from the West End’s younger stars, with Archie Durrant as Charlie Bucket performing Pure Imagination from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Clara Read as Matilda, singing Naughty from Matilda the Musical.
Kimberley Walsh and Michael Xavier sang the Last Night of the World from Miss Saigon, and new stars, Nicholas Afoa and Ava Brennan, from the multi-award winning musical ‘The Lion King’, sang ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’.
Diana Pilikngton sang an excellent rendition of The Winner Takes It All from the smash-hit musical Mamma Mia and the cast of Sunny Afternoon did brilliant versions of The Kinks’ Lola, You Really Got Me and All Day and All of the Night.
We were also very lucky to be joined by a choir made up Mountview students, who supported the show throughout the night and then took centre stage to sing ‘Seasons of Love’ from Rent.
The evening ended with an encore rendition of Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat from the cast of Guys and Dolls.
