  • The Life and Death of a Smartphone

As part of the BBC’s ‘Make It Digital’ season, Radio 1’s Adele Roberts delved deep into the inner workings of our smartphones exploring the design process and the intricate science behind many of the apps we have come to love. We also heard about the process of mining the materials and the environmental impact it has.
Listen to the programme here. It will be available for 30 days after broadcast.

  • The Problem of Pain – A Slow Motion Catastrophe

We are all living longer, but for many that will mean suffering chronic pain for longer too and it’s estimated that by 2018 the NHS will need an additional £5 billion to deal with such conditions.

Unlike acute pain – when we stub our toe or stand too close to a fire – chronic pain doesn’t go away and cannot be cured by conventional medicines.
In this programme Dr Sarah Goldingay from the University of Exeter investigates new approaches to dealing[…]

  • The Thought Chamber for BBC Radio 4

The Thought Chamber is a room devoid of light and sound, where a guest is left on their own for up to an hour. During that time, they are asked to vocalise the thoughts that come into their head, resulting in a snapshot of the inner workings of their mind.
In many ways, the results are much more revealing than a traditional interview, as no one can anticipate the subject matters or the direction of where the mind is going. We hear memories, fears,[…]

  • 5 Live’s Ballot Box Brigade

5 live’s Ballot Box Brigade was a unique programme where ordinary voters gave a real insight into the 2015 General Election.

Our select ‘brigade’ of listeners were tasked with recording their views during the campaign and passed judgement on the debates, interviews, policy announcements, and any gaffes that took place in the weeks running up to the election.

The programme was presented by Jenny Éclair, who said, “I love seeing how people[…]

  • Good Morning Vietnam Revisited

Adrian Cronauer was no ordinary DJ.  When he was on air for Armed Forces Radio in Saigon there was a gun by one of the turntables and every few years the radio station was blown up by the Viet Cong.  Adrian had chosen Vietnam as a posting as he wanted to see the Far East, but by the time he got there in early 1965, this former sleepy French colonial outpost had become a warzone.
In the late 1970’s Adrian wrote a sitcom based on his experiences[…]
